“Mickey-ing” Around with Our Children

Disney has finally said the quiet part out loud, haven’t they? The tension between The Walt Disney Company and Christians has been palpable for at least two decades. It all seemed to start when they permitted gay-pride week in their parks. A move perfectly within their right. But recent revelations should give Christian parents pause about how they allow their children to interact with Disney content.

Allowing an outside group to use your facilities for a festival is one thing. But this week, Disney’s objective to desensitize children to sexual perversion has become more transparent than ever before. Employees on a video conference openly admitted they are adding elements of “queerness” to all of their programming.

Disney’s effort to embrace and support sexual perversion has been increasingly evident as they’ve included queer characters in the backdrop of a growing number of programs. We learned this week that there is a reason these characters are in the background.

As long as they are in the background, parents with a sense of morality might choose to overlook a scene of two men kissing, thinking their children won’t pick up on what’s happening. But Disney is betting on two things: that you won’t mind a little perversion in your children’s programming and that your children will eventually accept this perversion as normal. And they are.

Throughout redemptive history, God has indicted his people for failing to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Consider this verse from Judges 2:10: “And there arose a generation after them who did not know the LORD or the work that he had done for Israel.”

What are we supposed to take away from that statement? We are supposed to take away that the parents did not raise their children faithfully. What’s the result of failing to instruct their children? Their children suffered under the hand of God’s judgment rather than enjoying his blessings. And, that’s why the theme of the Book of Judges is: “everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25).

Disney, of course, is just one agent in the movement to bring about a worldwide embrace of sexual perversion, but it happens to be one of the most powerful ones. We have reached the point where Christian parents must review and cautiously consider any Disney programming they allow young children to view. Not to do so is to invite disaster into your home.
