With this week’s pastor’s note, I’m asking you to take time to pray for our upcoming General Assembly and our denomination. This meeting is a gathering of the church in representative form and is patterned after Acts 15.
The convocation will include times of worship, fellowship, and a lot of business. The business portions of our assembly will be devoted to hearing reports from the agencies of the church (think MNA, MTW, etc.) and to debating important issues which confront us.
Presbyteries may request General Assembly to take up certain orders of business. These requests are known as “overtures.” Overtures may be as simple as requesting the combination or division of a presbytery’s boundaries. They may also be requests to make changes to our constitution (Westminster Standards and Book of Church Order).
This year, there are 47 overtures. You may peruse them here. These may not all come to the floor of the assembly. They read, however, like a laundry list of contemporary concerns. We may address issues like Critical Race Theory, white supremacy, and “Asian American Flourishing.” The overarching concern at this time, however, is our denomination’s stance toward homosexuality.
More particularly, is same-sex attraction sinful or is the sin only in the act? Is it proper for a Christian to identify as “same-sex attracted?” To be candid, I believe Scripture answers these questions with a resounding, “No.” But it’s these very questions that have formed a fault line between so-called progressives and conservatives in the PCA.
So, please pray. Pray for the peace, unity, and steadfastness of our denomination. Pray that we will now and always remain faithful witnesses to the Lord Jesus Christ and his inerrant Word. Ask the Lord to give courage to the men who will represent us at GA. I’ve included the list of Grace Presbytery men, again, below for your prayers.

May God bless you and keep you!
